Sergei Maxudov, a proofreader for the Shipping Gazette, has written an awful palimpsest of a novel, entitled Black Snow, and decides to hang himself on account, that is until a strange visitor pounds on his door and offers to publish it. This is Sergei's introduction to the outrageous world of publishing and from there, to the downward spiral of adapting one's work for the stage. Nine actors portray 54 characters, the often absurd, sometimes vicious employees of the famed Moscow Art Theatre, each poised to cut, slice, rip, edit, mutilate, and otherwise butcher his script in this tour-de-force performed at breakneck speed. See for yourself how hard it really is to develop a new play as Mikhail Bulgakov's Black Snow savages the theatrical world of post-revolutionary Russia.

Bruno Beltrão launched Grupo de Rua in 1996, and the powerhouse company immediately began to capture fans across the world, competing, showcasing and bringing their distinctive brand of hip hop to new audiences. Sixteen years later, the conversation between hip hop and contemporary dance has created a new language distinctly Brazilian, and all street.

They are young, lyrical, brilliant, funky and sort of “out there.” Perhaps there is no definitive description of this modern performance ensemble. But a look at the artists that inspire them, including David Lang and John Cage, may harbor some clues to what this NYC group is really all about. As musicians, they are downright academic in how they absorb the modern masters. But their interpretations are charged with a mandate to destroy the boundaries of their percussive instincts. For this performance, they present an entirely new piece written by world-renowned composer Steve Reich, promising a melodic and totally unique musical experience.
