(Austin, TX) – The Austin Film Society is pleased to announce its upcoming Essential Cinema series, “A Summer of Restoration: Selections from Milestone Films.” This series provides a sampling of a wide selection of films, old and new, from the wonderful Milestone Films catalog, specializing in restoration. The series will move from its traditional Tuesday night slot to Saturdays at Noon running from June 5 to August 7 at Alamo Drafthouse Downtown (320 E 6th Street).
Because of their deep love and appreciation of cinema, Dennis Doros and Amy Heller created Milestone Films in 1990. They describe their mission: “We dedicated ourselves to discovering and distributing films of enduring artistry from both yesterday and today - films that we loved and wanted to share. Our collection now ranges from the earliest days of the cinema, to the golden age of the silents, to the postwar foreign film renaissance, to brand-new American independent features, documentaries and foreign films.”

Austin Film Society promotes the appreciation of film and supports creative media production by screening rarely seen films, giving grants and other support to emerging filmmakers, and providing access and education about film to youth and the public. Through Austin Studios, which AFS opened in 2000 in partnership with the City of Austin, AFS helps attract film development and production to Austin and Texas. Gala film premieres and the annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards raise funds as well as awareness of the impact of film on economy and community. Austin Film Society is ranked among the top film centers in the country and recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and Directors Guild of America. THE FIRST ANNUAL HILL COUNTRY FILM FESTIVAL KICKS OFF IN FREDERICKSBURG, TX
WITH A SCREENING OF "THE INHERITANCE OF WAR" FILM AND MORE...
The Hill Country Film Festival kicks off its inaugural three-day celebration of independent film and filmmakers,
Thursday, April 22 . Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Fredericksburg, Texas . the heart of the Texas Hill Country.
The Hill Country Film Festival (HCFF) blends unique artistic culture of the hill country with the independent film
world, hosting three days of feature and short independent films, parties and gatherings. Over 25 short and
feature films from all over the world will be showcased during the festival.
A highlight of the festival is the screening of the documentary "The Inheritance of War", a relatively unknown story
of personal accounts of WWII Veterans and Bataan Death March survivors. "The Inheritance of War" producer and
narrator James Parkinson dedicated his life to telling this story and is a powerful example of the passion and
determination the independent film world thrives upon.
The movie is a story close to the heart of Fredericksburg's own historic Nimitz Museum and a perfect catalyst to
bring together the culture of the hill country with that of the independent film world. Much like the story of the
WWII Veterans in "The Inheritance of War", there are so many stories that have the potential to touch so many
people, yet they remain untold if not for the perseverance of a few. HCFF has been established as an opportunity
for filmmakers and enthusiasts to recognize and pay homage to the accomplishments of film.
Official selection of films will be announced by March 26.
WHERE & WHEN:
HCFF kicks off Thursday, April 22 and runs through Saturday, April 24. Film screening dates and times will be
released in April. Films will be screened in Fredericksburg's Stagecoach Theater located at 2254 South US Hwy 87.
Thursday, April 22: Opening Night Program (1 feature)
Friday, April 23: 4 Programs (1 Program=1 feature film or series of shorts) & Speaking Engagement at The Nimitz Museum with James Parkinson, producer and narrator of "The Inheritance of War" and author of Soldier Slaves.
Saturday, April 24: 4 Programs, including Screening of "The Inheritance of War", Closing Event & Awards
ABOUT HCFF:
Set in Fredericksburg, Texas, the annual HCFF is the vision of its director Chad Mathews, an actor, screenwriter,
producer and native Texan. Having participated in the film festival circuit, Mathews came to love the camaraderie
and shared respect of those who are committed to the art of independent filmmaking.
HCFF is bringing independent film to the Texas Hill Country. The appeal of the Texas Hill Country, with its authentic
culture, picturesque setting and welcoming spirit is ideal for cultivating an annual world-class, "destination" film
festival. - Chad Mathews
