2008 TEXAS FILM HALL OF FAME AWARDS ANNOUCES NEW HONOREES
MIKE JUDGE AND MORGAN FAIRCHILD,
DAN RATHER TO EMCEE
(Austin, TX) - The Austin Film Society (AFS) announced today that Mike Judge will accept the Ann Richards Award at the eighth annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards on March 7, 2008. The Ann Richards Award recognizes someone who breaks creative barriers and forges new paths. Judge, who makes his home in Austin, has brought animation to new audiences as the creator of Emmy Award-winning KING OF THE HILL, now in its 12th hit season. He even voices the main character 'Hank Hill.' Other notable projects from Judge include 90s cultural phenomena BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD and OFFICE SPACE.
Morgan Fairchild needs little introduction. An icon of glamour, her career has spanned more than 35 years. It was her Golden Globe-nominated role of 'Constance Carlyle' on the short-lived FLAMINGO ROAD that propelled Fairchild to stardom. Other memorable appearances include FALCON CREST, THE CITY and an Emmy-nominated guest role on MURPHY BROWN. In addition to her voluminous television career, she has appeared in THE RED-HEADED STRANGER, MIDNIGHT COP and PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE. Fairchild serves on the boards of the Screen Actors Guild and Hollywood Women's Political Committee. She hails from Dallas, Texas.
These Texas luminaries join previously announced honorees Thomas Haden Church, Jayne Mansfield (award accepted by her daughter Mariska Hargitay), and URBAN COWBOY (award accepted by Debra Winger), feted for their immense contributions to Texas filmmaking. They join fellow Texas Film Hall of Fame inductees Dennis Quaid, Marcia Gay Harden, Forest Whitaker, Sissy Spacek, Owen Wilson and many more.
Veteran newsman Dan Rather will emcee the evening. Born and raised in Houston, Rather began his career in Texas in 1950 as an Associated Press reporter. He joined CBS in 1962 where his reporting on the John F. Kennedy assassination from Dallas thrust him into national news as a White House correspondent and later anchor of CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.
Located at Austin Film Society's Austin Studios, the Texas Film Hall of Fame recognizes actors, directors, screenwriters, musicians, filmmakers and films from, influenced or inspired by the Lone Star State. The proceeds from the event benefit the educational and artistic programs of AFS.
Media credentials are required to cover the event. Contact Agnes Varnum, agnes@austinfilm.org or (512) 322-0145 x213 with your publication information.
Tables (seating ten) range in price from $5,000 to $25,000. For table sales and sponsorship information, contact AFS Director of Development Shannon Moody at (512) 322-0145 x222 or by email at shannon@austinfilm.org.
Austin Film Society promotes the appreciation of film and supports creative filmmaking by screening rarely seen films, giving grants and other support to emerging filmmakers, and providing access and education about film to youth and the public. Through Austin Studios, which AFS opened in 2000 in partnership with the City of Austin, AFS helps attract film development and production to Austin and Texas. Gala film premieres and the annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards raise funds as well as awareness of the impact of film on economy and community. The Austin Film Society is ranked among the top film centers in the country and recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and Directors Guild of America.
