Colorado River Walkers/Volkssport
coloradoriverwalkers.org/

The Colorado River Walkers present a volksmarch through the pines and along the shores of Lake Bastrop on Saturday, May 7. Choose between distances of 5, 10 or 16 kilometers on sandy and unimproved trails, with a trail rating of 2. Views of the lake are frequent, with several bridges and a few short hills.

The walk starts at the Fisherman's Pavillion in the LCRA North Shore Park, located on FM 1441 east of Texas 95 near Bastrop. Start between 8 a.m. and noon; finish by 3 p.m. The noncompetitive walk is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA), a member of the International Fedederation of Popular Sports (IVV), and is eligible for IVV Achievement Awards. "B" awards from past events will be available.

Cost for this event is $4 for "B" award and IVV credit, $3 for IVV credit only, or free for no award or credit. Children under 12 can receive a free award. Park entry fees also apply: $4 adults; $2 seniors, military (active or retired) and disabled with ID or permanent disability; free for children 13 and younger. Park passes are good for both the North and South Shore park units.

To reach the start, take Texas 71 east of Bastrop to Texas 95. Go 4 miles north on 95 to FM 1441, turn right and go about 2.5 miles to North Shore Park. After paying the park entry fee, park personnel will direct you to the start point.

The Colorado River Walkers also offer year-round events in Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock and Georgetown. All walkers are invited to join the club for fun, fitness and fellowship. Bastrop County Seeks Photos and Videos of Wildfires for Historical Record

I am contacting you to ask for your help in publicizing Bastrop County's efforts to document the historic Labor Day fires. We are asking everyone to submit photos, videos and personal accounts to create a historical record for the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management and for future generations.

We want to collect as many photos and videos as we can to tell the complete story of the wildfires. Anyone can easily submit his or her photos and personal stories to our new Facebook page, Bastrop County Wildfire Historical Project: https://www.facebook.com/BastropCoWildfireHistoricalProject. Videos can be uploaded to our new Vimeo group: http://vimeo.com/groups/bastropcowildfirehistoricalproject.

We would love to tell you more about the project, or to set up an interview for you with Mike Fisher, coordinator of the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management. Please let us know of any questions.
